A BLACK LACQUER LOBED BOX AND COVER WITH PEWTER WIRE AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAY YUAN DYNASTY, 14TH CENTURY

Estimate
30,000 - 40,000 USD
bidding is closed

Description

interior tray (3)

Condition

The top circular mother-of-pearl has a 1 inch chip on the side along with old restoration, as it is now warped. Other mother-of-pearl inlays, especially on the side of the box, have warped and cracked; approximately three may be later replacements. Some of the lacquer has age cracks, seen on the top of the box, edges of the interior tray, and edges of the bottom of the interior. The interior tray is warped and does not fit easily into the box. When inspected under UV light, the only fluorescence appeared on the edges of the interior of the box and tray, where there may have been repainting. Updated 23 February 2009
