Description

of well-potted ovoid form, the shouldered sides finely painted in underglaze blue and enameled in bright translucent green with two scaly dragons pacing through clouds and flames in pursuit of 'flaming pearls', a band of lappets around the base, the shoulder decorated with the eight Buddhist Emblems enclosed by a ruyi and a spiral band

Acquired from a German dealer before 1924.
Brought to the United States circa 1934, by Gertrude Morgenroth, Great Neck, New York.
Thence by descent to Eva Lande.
Thence by descent to the present owner.

Condition

There is a firing crack (ca. 3/4in.) to the glaze on the inside of the neck and several linked hairline cracks on the rim with a two associated hairline cracks extending down the neck (ca. 1 in.). The green enamel shows overall very light surface wear and minor scratching.
