Description

finely carved in high relief with a five-clawed dragon writhing amidst  leafy lotus scrolls, the stone of pale celadon tone with three of the lotus flower heads carved through the russet skin, wood stand

Condition

This rare hat finial is in fair overall condition with the exception of minor loss and nicks to the extremities of the carving including loss to the lower section of the jaw of the dragon, a nick to the foliage beneath the dragon's jaw and loss to the foliage at the back of the finial (lower right side as illustrated in the catalgue). It should be noted that the stone is of a pale celadon tone and not as white as the catalogue illustration would suggest.
