Description

the pebble finely carved, the beast with legs tucked beneath its body and head with bulging eyes and large horns turned to the right and clenching a leafy branch in its jaws, the stone of opaque white tone with areas of caramel tone 

Provenance

Acquired in Paris, 1962.

Condition

With the exception of three small areas of repair under the tail (4mm by 12mm, 2mm by 12mm, 4mm by 2mm), a 2mm chip to the tip of the branch, russet-coloured natural inclusions and hairline cracks to the face, reeds in it mouth, and right side and rear of the body, minor nicks to the edges of the branches and very minor overall surface scratches, the present piece is in good condition.
