Description

carved in the round, the recumbent lion looking to the right and holding the ribbons of a brocade ball in his jaws while a cub plays at his side tugging another ribbon, the mane, back and tail of each lightly incised, the stone of greyish-white tone with darker grey and brown flecking to the haunches

Provenance

Acquired in Paris, 1959.

Condition

With the exception of a 2mm by 4mm chip to the right side of the larger lion, minute nibbles to the edges of the ribbon, grey and russet inclusions concentrated to the larger figure, and very minor scratches to the surface, this carving is in very good condition.
