A CARVED AND GILDED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

carved seated resting her hands on the right knee, wearing a gilt and incised cloud patterned long-sleeved robe, the face with meditative expression framed by a hooded cowl, 17cm., 6 3/4 in; together with a standing figure of Guanyin; two seated Luohan; a seated dignitary seal; and a large group depicting Li Tie Guai

The seated figure of Guanyin (illustrated) is in very good condition with the exception of loss to the tip of the bottom right edge of the robe, nibbles to the front bottom edge of the robe at the far right and rubbing to the gilded decoration and light scratches. The standing Guanyin, nibbles to the front edge of the cowel, a circa 3.5 x 1.5cm., area of loss to the bottom left side of the robe, a nick to the front right bottom edge of the robe, and loss to the tip of the bottom edge of the robe to the far right. The reclining Luohan, circa 7x4mm., loss to the far right bottom edge of the carving and probable loss to the carving at the left side. Seated Luohan, nibbles to the bottom edge of the carving. The seal, a 7x7mm., shallow flake to the base at the right rear corner, a 3x3mm., chip to the front middle tip of crown. The Li Tie Guai group is in very good condition with the exception of minor nibbles to the edge of the base.
