Description

of oval form with deep rounded sides rising from a short spreading foot to an indented everted rim, finely carved around the exterior with a whorl diaper band divided along the longest edges by a pair of taotie mask ring handles, the well polished translucent stone of olive-green tone with small russet and caramel inclusions

Condition

The cup is in fair condition with the exception of a circa 3.5cm wide and 4cm deep break (1 piece) with old riveted repair and associated hairline cracks extending around almost all of the lower body; a natural hairline crack in the stone to the body running from the rim diagonally down circa 4.5cm and associated rim chip (circa 2mm by 5mm), two hairline cracks of circa 1cm to the rim next to each mask handle, tiny nibbles to the foot and very light overall scratches to the surface.
