Catalogue Note
Second edition. A magnificent set of seven large plates of the solar system dramatically executed in stipple engraving, with the last in fine original coloring. The first six plates were originally published in 1815, with the new plate added by Dufour in 1830 for this edition. Both editions are rare and the work is unrecorded in Houzeau & Lancaster, which does note a 12mo text by Dufour describing how to interpret Visconti's plates (no. 8172), Precis du systeme astronomique, pour servir à l'intelligence des six tableaux de M. Sigismond Visconti, et du planisphere representant les differentes positions de la Terre (Paris, 1830 and 1839).
