Catalogue Note

Habrecht (1592-1633), physician and globemaker of Strassburg, engaged in scientific correspondence with Wilhelm Schickard (1592-1635) concerning a bright color-changing meteor observed in southwest Germany in 1623. The present work is Habrecht's design for a large, elaborate, free-standing sextant with plates designed for various latitudes.

The first two plates are star maps, each 10 inches in diameter, of the northern and southern constellations. First published in Latin (Strassburg: Heyden, 1628), these plates appear to be from the last edition edited by Sturm (1635-1703).
