Catalogue Note
First edition of an attractive celestial atlas, one of the more elaborate productions of the mid- to late-nineteenth century drive to popularize scientific education. The illustrations of the constellations are surrounded by detailed neoclassical decorations and the whole printed in gold. In addition, the folding plate of the skies of the Northern Hemisphere is intended to be removed from the book and pricked with pins in appropriate spots and held up to a light for viewing.
