Contemporary sprinkled boards, sprinkled calf spine with 5 raised bands, gilt tooling in 5 compartments, morocco leather spine label, plain endpapers, red edges; small holes along hinges affecting the free endpapers, skillfully rebacked with original spine laid down.

Catalogue Note
For reasons unknown, Fortin (a globe maker for the French royal family) was commissioned to produce a revised and much reduced edition of Flamsteed's Atlas coelestis (see lot 21), which turned out to be a successful undertaking.
