Description

The Writings.  Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1916–24



10 volumes, in 8s (8  3/4  x 6 in.; 223 x 153 mm).  Photogravure frontispieces and plates (some sepia, others tinted blue), photographic plates, maps (some folding), lettered tissue guards, each volume with an additional handcolored frontispiece (duplicating one of the plates in the volume).  Three-quarter crushed brown morocco by the Riverside Press, spines gilt in five compartments, tan buckram sides, top edges gilt; spines slightly faded.

Catalogue Note

The Manuscript Edition.  Number 686 of 750 sets, this copy one of a small number with a leaf or fragment of manuscrtipt bound in to every volume, as opposed to the standard sets of the Manuscript Edition, which have only a single manuscript leaf bound at the beginning of the first volume.

A fine set in remarkable condition.
