Catalogue Note
First edition, first impression of one of the most sought-after children's books published in America. Only eight copies of the first impression, stating April 1908 on the copyright page, have appeared at auction in the last thirty-five years. Although films were made of the book in 1919 and 1934, it was a made-for-television film of 1985 that brought the book to the attention of a large and devoted coterie of readers in the United States, Canada (where the novel is set), and Japan.
