Catalogue Note

First edition.  Copy 878; one of 760 numbered copies on handmade paper (of a whole edition of 1000).  Laid in is the Shakespeare and Company flyer announcing the publication of Ulysses for Autumn 1921 and with the rue Dupuytren address scored through and replaced in holograph by the rue de l'Odéon address.

A landmark of modern literature, "the book of the century" in critic Hugh Kenner's estimation.  This opinion was shared by Ezra Pound, who resorted to more graphic language to express his admiration: "All the fuggs, all the fœtors, the whole boil of the European mind has been lanced."
