Fine engraved neo-classic title-page, engraved text throughout save for letterpress section titles and prefatory text, 116 engraved plates of which 89 are portraits of monkeys and lemurs (the rest are text); mostly marginal browning and foxing in first three sections heavier in text pages, worm puncture in last few pages of first part and throughout second affecting lemur plates. Later three-quarter black morocco, spine gilt; recased, original spine laid down.

Attractive early Italian monograph on apes and monkeys, based on the work of Buffon, Cuvier, Geoffroy, Daubenton, Lacepede, Latreille and Audebert. Jacob was court painter to Prince Eugene Beauharnais of Milan, to whom the work is dedicated. This is the second edition with text only in Italian.
