Condition

A rare and striking piece of good overall appearance. Minor typical old marks, stains and scratches consistent with age and use. Seat and back leather is original and in good overall condition, with no rips or tears. The original leather is backed with horse hair which dates this example to the earliest years of the production. Small area of darker leather to the left of the buttons to the back (facing), below the horzontal piping, suggests this small area has been restored or strengthened. Minor crazing to leather to front of seat and arms and old scuffs and blemishes in places, all totally consistent with age and use. One or two spots of stain to the back. Very small (c.1cm) tear to leather to underside of left arm (facing), not visible. Leather overall in good condition and a pleasing mellow colour, less red than the illustration suggests. Leather piping to underside of front seat rail worn and lacking in places and canvas to underside of seat torn, which will need some attention. Of good structural condition. A comfortable and rare piece in good honest condition, ready for use and display.
