Catalogue Note

The fireplace was commissioned by R. Wylie Hill of 3, Lilybank Terrace, Glasgow.  Wylie Hill's wife was a member of the Rowat family, who was acquainted with Mackintosh through Jessie Rowat, the wife of Fra H. Newbery.  Billcliffe notes that the fender in steel, glass and leather is the only part of the original design to survive in the house, which is now occupied by a girls' school.
