A large, fine and charming watercolour in Wain's more naturalistic style. In a modern frame and mount – not examined outside of the frame. The green paint mix was, evidently, unsuccessful and shows some loss within the foliage in the lower half of the the illustration. There is also some minor loss to brown paint slightly affecting the centre kitten's left eye and top of the head. There is also some other minor loss. The colours are bright and unfaded and the published catalogue image gives an accurate illustration.
