220 by 167mm., watercolour, signed "Louis Wain" lower right corner, mounted, framed and glazed, some minor cracking and loss

Provenance

Given by the artist to Charles Simmons, a worker at Napsbury Hospital, and thence by descent

Condition

One of Wain's cats in the cartoon style. In an old frame and mount – not examined outside of the frame. There is some loss to the brown paint affecting the cat's markings and eyes. Nevertheless, a bright and unfaded watercolour. There is also some other minor loss. Image available on www.sothebys.com
