258 by 368mm., ink and coloured pencil drawing, inscribed and signed 'To Flip Ross | Ernest H. Shepard | March 1959' in central panel



[together with] autograph letter signed ('Ernest Shepard') to [Norman P.] Ross agreeing to make 'a replica of the map of the forest, used as endpapers in W.T.P. The size of the original drawing is 14 inches wide by 9½ inches high and as I have the pencil sketch of this size I can work from that...', asking 12 guineas for the 'elaborate drawing', and noting new editions of Milne books with coloured drawings ('I had great fun making the coloured drawings...') (4 pages, 4to, 23 March 1959), slight soiling, adhesive tape at edge of one letter, added note of a magazine article



[together with] autograph letter signed ('Ernest H. Shepard') to [Norman P.] Ross noting 'I have coloured this drawing of the map as I think that young people like it so' and making reference to an article on A.A. Milne in Life magazine (1 page, 4to, 28 March 1959), some browning, adhesive tape to two edges and repair



Norman P. Ross contributed an article entitled 'The World of Pooh Lives On' in Life magazine on 27 February 1956. At the time he was London Bureau Chief for the magazine. The pencil sketch from which Shepard worked, and to which he makes reference, was sold in these rooms, 17 December 2008, lot 20.
