Catalogue Note

Churchill's first book is based on his despatches to the Daily Telegraph and the Pioneer Mail. He "was single-minded and constant in his commitment to the book. He wrote that it 'absorbs my thoughts and occupies me for six hours every day. I believe...I am producing a fine piece of English and a considerable accumulation of valuable facts'..." (Ronald I. Cohen, Biblibiography of the Writings of Sir Winston Churchill)
