A fine series of illustrations by the original frontispiece illustrator of The Wind in the Willows. These illustrations probably date from 1904 when Arthur Melville died leaving a wife and baby girl. 'Binkie' Melville became Robertson's muse. In his autobiographical Time Was he notes 'For a period I could paint no more, but fell back upon writing and making picture books for children – or rather one child ... I began to write little plays for her – plays that grew out of her daily life.' Binkie and two of Robertson's sheep dogs feature in this series that show a strong Peter Pan influence (first performed in 1904).
