8vo, second edition ("10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2" on publisher's imprint), presentation copy inscribed by the author to the first illustrator of harry potter ("19.9.97 | for Thomas Taylor, | with thanks for producing | a perfect Harry. | J.K. Rowling") on front free endpaper, together with an original ink drawing of harry potter and hedwig, 130 by 110mm., signed "Thomas Taylor 2003" on lower paste-down, original pictorial boards featuring illustration by Thomas Taylor, slight browning, slight splitting at gutter, head and foot of spine slightly bumped, some other minor bumps and imperfections at extremities



Thomas Taylor's illustration of Harry Potter continues to be one of the most recognizable images of the character. This copy of the book reveals the author's opinion that Taylor provided "a perfect Harry". The original watercolour was sold in these rooms, 10 July 2001. The inscription is dated within the first three months of publication and predates the winning of the author's first major prize (the Nestle Smarties Gold Award).
