Maulana Abdul Bari (1878-1926) was an Islamic scholar and leading figure in the Khilafat movement, who worked closely with Gandhi from 1918 onwards.

Bari was educated in the Firangi Mahal in Lucknow and was a prominent A'lim (Islamic scholar). He was the founder of the Jamiat-e-Ulemai-e-Hind and his disciples included Shaukat and Mohammad Ali. The Khalifat movement, which attempted to pressure the British into support of the Ottoman Caliphate, became a major part of the wider Non-Cooperation movement. A series of letters by Gandhi to Bari was sold in these rooms on 15 July 1998, lot 198.
