Catalogue Note

As resident Ambassador in Madrid, Sir John Digby (later Earl of Bristol) was closely involved in negotiations for the marriage between the English Prince Henry and the Spanish Infanta. This match had been strongly supported by the Queen and, although negotiations had collapsed shortly before this letter was written, she took this opportunity to express her gratitude to Digby.
