Catalogue Note
The architect Stanford White designed and decorated Henry W. Poor's house in Gramercy Park, New York City, as well as his Tudor-style House in Tuxedo, New York; a Jandolo invoice to Stanford White dated 1905 lists, among other antiquities, "a Marble Archaic Hermes," perhaps the present sculpture (W. Craven, Stanford White: decorator in Opulence and Dealer in Antiquities, New York, 2005, p. 57), which the latter may have sold to H.W. Poor.
