Description

  • A Marble Torso of a Satyr Having a Thorn Removed from his Foot
  • Height 21 in. 53.3 cm.
based on a Hellenistic sculpture of the 2nd/1st Century B.C., the satyr seated on a rocky outcrop with his left leg raised, a panther below.

Provenance

acquired by the present owner from the estate sale of art dealer Michel Jeuillard (1955-2008), Blois, who acquired the sculpture in the 1970s

Condition

A shown, back in much the same condition of as the front, note chipped fingers of satyr and damaged head and foreleg of panther, tail of satyr fragmentary, rust stains on panther's haunches and below satyr's neck, hairline cracks radiating from rusty iron pin still stuck in satyr's neck.
