Condition

The colours of this watercolour have faded somewhat. The work has not been laid down, however it is attached to a backboard at several places verso.

Catalogue Note

Although Cox is not necessarily associated with London, he did live there, once between 1804 and 1814 and again between 1827 and 1841. Like many artists, Cox was drawn to the Thames, which offered him the opportunity to observe river life, nature and the historic London architecture. It has been suggested that the present work dates from the 1820s.
