Catalogue Note
The original drawings for these woodcuts were made between 1512 and 1516. The blocks were cut in the following year by Burgkmair (a pupil of Dürer) and others, including Hans Schauffelein who had worked on Pfintzing's Theuerdanck. They were first printed in a very small edition in 1526 at the instruction of Ferdinand and were not reprinted until this edition in 1796.
