Condition

The canvas has not been relined and there is no evidence of retouching visible under ultraviolet light. There is some slight yellowing to the paint surface, although this appears to be a natural result of the varnish used. This work is in very good original condition.

A l'exemple d'un artisan qui explore sans relâche l'alchimie de la matière qu'il met en œuvre, Jean Fautrier est aussi fasciné par la poésie des sujets représentés : nus, Histoire, natures mortes, paysage, autant de thèmes différents dans lesquels Jean Fautrier excelle et font de lui un peintre incontournable du XXe siècle.

Cette oeuvre dont le titre complet, Not too much to look at (Nu), symbolise le thème le plus important pour Jean Fautrier, à savoir la présence du corps et sa disparition. Ce tableau s'inscrit dans le registre des Nus exécutés entre 1955 et 1957 et fait partie des rares tableaux de grandes dimensions réalisés par l'artiste.
