Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. The collaged elements are sound and secure. There is scattered very fine craquelure in the white painted areas at the top and left side of the work. There are a few scattered pinpoint accretions located in the top white margin. Additionally, there are a few light abrasions with resultant unobtrusive light black marks located 15 inches from the left edge and 2 inches from the top edge. Under ultra violet light inspection, some of the collaged elements fluoresce the adhesive but there is no evidence of inpainting. Framed.
Please note the correct medium for this work is solvent transfer on fabric collaged to wooden panel, with acrylic paint in artist's frame.

Catalogue Note
I thought of the commissioned series of collage paintings that I made for the Van Vleck family as a group of abstract portraits each with the family unification and restrictions, and each with the uniqueness and curiosity of the chosen individual in the choosing. The radical differences hopefully, and the blood calm as security, each subject would have to recognize his own likeness.... - Robert Rauschenberg
