Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the brown of faeces is slightly deeper and richer in the original. The catalogue illustration does not fully convey the three dimensionality of the Plexiglas box apparent in the original.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. A few extremely fine and unobtrusive surface scratches are visible in isolated places to the exterior of the plexiglas. On close examination, there are a few scattered small areas of mould to the faeces and a small speck of material is adhering inside the plexiglas at the top of the bag (visible in the catalogue illustration).

Catalogue Note
Delvoye's renowned Cloaca project, comporting 8 different machines, has been displayed in museums all over the world since 2000. "Cloaca is the result of a three-year collaboration between the artist and scientists at the University of Ghent whose shared mission was to duplicate the functions of the human digestive system as closely as possible" (Dan Cameron, Senior Curator, New Museum, New York). The lot for sale is one of the excrements that were produced by Delvoye's Cloaca – New & Improved (2001) at its New Museum performance (New York, 2002).
