Catalogue Note

"A single motif is no longer dependent on a single picture support, but can make its case in all kinds of visual forms... Even apart from his handling of his motifs, the astonishing fact remains that for all their echoes of comic-strip figures and simplistic pictograms, each portrait still retains the individuality of the sitter's features and is recognisable as that person."
