Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly warmer and the green a paler hue in the original. Condition: This work is in good condition. There is wear to all corner tips of each canvas with associated specks of paint loss. There is wear, handling and scattered rub marks as well as further minor losses in places around the outer edges of each canvas. To the left hand canvas there is an indentation in the lower centre of the upper right quadrant. There is a stable diagonal craquelure to the upper centre of the right hand panel and further isolated cracks adjacent to this upon close inspection. There is a pattern of diagonal tension cracks in the upper right corner of the right hand panel, as well as above the left section of the bottom edge. Further very fine tension cracks are visible in the left hand figure. There are scattered rub marks to the surface, most notably one 25 cm. beneath the upper right corner of the right hand panel; a faint red rub mark in the left hand panel 10 cm. beneath the centre of the top edge; and several small grey rub marks 25 cm. to the left of this. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
