Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is softer in the original, with the whites tending more to cream.
Condition:
This work is in very good condition. There are two areas of craquelure: to the largest metal element and to the small red element in the lower centre of the composition, resulting in a loss to the latter. There are scattered handling marks in places around the white artist's frame.There is a small area of inconsistency along the bottom edge which appears shiny, and a further tiny spot to the centre of the left edge, both of which are visible in the catalogue illustration. There is a small area of retouching to the recessed area of the artist's frame in the lower right corner, which fluoresces under ultra-violet light.
