Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. Aside from smudges of graphite inherent to the medium, the sheet appears white and very clean. The top edge is deckled and there are artist's pinholes at the 4 corners. There are a few scattered soft creases and a slight undulation to the sheet inherent to the artist's working method. Hinged verso to the matte intermittently along the top edge. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note
"Indeed, while Rothenberg's horses possess a kind of primitive elegance, they also have their fragile and humorous side...They signify humanness, even though they are not. Stumbligna round and splayed across their ambiguous pictorial space like fragile characters rfom a Beckett play, Rothenberg's horses are not so much a red herring as they are a kind of disguise. Manifestations of covert expressionism, they illustrate the artist's desire to reinvent the body to express emotional state." - Michael Aupiny in Exh. Cat., Buffalo, Albright-Knox Gallery, Susan Rothenberg, 1992-1994, pp. 17-19
