Catalogue Note
1. no. inv.
Léon Riesener and Eugène Delacroix were first cousins, and it was in the studio of his uncle, the painter Henri-François Riesener, that Delacroix first studied the art of drawing. The two young artists shared a love of wild animals.
Our drawing can be compared with a Study of the paws of a feline by Delacroix, now in the Musée du Louvre.1
