worked in combinations of polychrome silk and wool threads, in tent stitch, petit and gros point, on various coloured grounds, depicting predominantly floral designs, including set of three seat covers and four matching arms, worked with floral sprigs and grape vines on a terracotta ground, English, 18th century; comprising some individual seat covers, some matched;  together with small group of cuttings and remnants (Qty 24)

Lot comprises of Qty 24: some matched; including set of three seat covers and four matching arms – uncut – on canvas support, worked with floral sprigs and grape vines on a terracotta ground, English, 18th century; with repairs (seat: approx 64.5cm. x 74cm.; shaped backs: 54cm. x 48cm. and 54cm. x 46cm); * Two matching covers, worked with central cartouche with white flowering plant, 18th century, on white ground, with floral surround on blue ground, both with panel tucked under onto reverse, both with interlining and stitching visible from repairs, one approx. 52cm. x 50cm.(one illustrated in catalogue); and other approx. 52cm. x 50cm.; * nine similar needlework small covers, Late 19th century and 20th century, worked on brown/purple grounds, with flowers and foliage and all, except one, centred with birds (all different) on flowering sprigs, all on canvas – some marked in ink – name of needlework sets - Chippendale, all with evidence of nails used around edges; all approximate sizes as shaped pieces: 47cm. x 54cm with two birds, cut across top of canvas; 49cm. x 58cm. with flowers; 47cm. x 59cm. with two birds; 47cm. x 56cm. with one bird, shaped front edge; 46cm. x 57cm. with one bird, cut across top of canvas; 47cm. x 58cm. with two birds; 47cm. x 55cm. with one bird; 47.5cm. x 55cm. with one bird, cut across top of canvas, and 46.5cm. x 54cm with one bird); * a similar larger needlework seat panel, 20th century, with scrolling foliage enclosing a bird, on brown ground, with two sections cut out for furniture support (approx. 51cm. x 58cm.); * another larger seat cover, late 19th/20th century, with floral centre and strapwork surround, with four sections cut out for furniture support (approx. 60cm. x 66cm.); * a small circular shaped seat cover, with small bird amongst foliage, with eau-de-nil ground, with two sections cut out for furniture support (approx. 49cm. x 55cm.); some loss of threads across front of ground; * two panels with shaped needlework floral panels on cream ground, 19th century and later, cut and applied to blue silk velvet (both with padding and nail holes on all edges, needlework in good condition (approx. 48cm. x 61cm. and 48cm. x 68cm.); including some individual seat covers; * A small single oval shaped floral panel with floral bouquet, on yellow ground, with red scrolling surround, 19th century, (cut round edges, approx. 63cm. x 55cm.); * A small square shaped strapwork fragment, worked in red, green and blue, on cream ground, 20th century (cut around edges, approx. 50cm. x 49cm.) picture panels: * A large rectangular floral and bird panel, late 18th and later, portrait format, worked with central lozenge with exotic birds, on cream ground, with strapwork surround on brown ground (83cm. x 62.5cm.); * A rectangular portrait figural needlework panel, 18th century, portrait format, worked with central enclosed garden with central fountain (irregular edges: approx. 70cm. x 55cm.); * A rectangular pictoral panel, 18th century, of horizontal/landscape format with small figures and animals within foliate and floral surround, on brown ground (65cm. x 78cm.), three sides with extra side sections added; together with small group of cuttings and remnants: various sizes
