A group of European needlework seat and arm covers 18th century and later

worked in combinations of polychrome silk and wool threads, in tent stitch, petit and gros point, on various coloured grounds, depicting predominantly floral designs, some `Bizarre' designs, 18th century, for example a `Chinoiserie'  figural grouping within elaborate floral and foliate surround (illustrated); together with two rectangular panels of `Flame' work, 19th century, some individual seat covers, some matched;  including a set of ten oval arm covers worked with large pastel coloured large flowers on a cream ground; together with a further set of twenty-two oval arm covers worked with finely worked motif with flowers, torch and bow, on a cream ground, 18th century (Seat covers Qty 19)

Lot comprises of: Two matching large seat covers of exuberant flowers and foliate on salmon coloured ground: irregularly shaped panels (approx. 65cm. x 79cm. at widest) and another (72cm. high, 69cm. wide) A `Chinoiserie' figural grouping within elaborate floral and foliate surround, (illustrated in catalogue); (79cm. high, x 72cm. at widest), shaped sections cut out where seat arms would have been, worked in tent stitch gros and petit point on canvas with brown ground, some loss, some repairs, linen strip attached across the bottom. Two rectangular panels of `Flame' work, 19th century; neither lined. Some minor thread loss. Different design, but similar colours - brown and green, worked on canvas, visible around edges; approx. 51cm. x 66cm. and 52cm. x 65cm. (corner damaged) some individual seat covers, * one with floral design with surrounding green foliate wreath, 18th century, on two-tone mustard and sienna coloured ground, four cuts for round furniture (63cm x 73cm); *A single petit point floral seat cover (54cm. x 58cm), 18th century, distressed condition and with stained backing; *Another needlework seat cover, late 18th century and later, floral basket on yellow ground (44.5cm. x 55cm.), four cuts for round furniture, very dirty; * A needlework cover uncut from canvas ground, early 20th century, worked with small repeat floral motifs on cream ground, canvas marked 5052, not symmetrical (approx. 55.5cm x 58cm. wide) * A single seat cover, 20th century, worked with blue and pink stylised flowers on yellow ground, four cuts for round furniture (57cm x 65cm), * Another oval shaped floral panel, 18th century, on pale blue/green ground (64cm x 44cm) distressed in areas, some repairs, and loss of ground threads * A small shaped back cover, 20th century, with green basket and foliage surround, on yellow ground (43cm. x 35.5cm.) * Another larger oval shaped cover, 20th century, with pink and red foliate motif within ribbon tied surround, on pale beige/yellow ground (57cm. x 51cm) * A large seat cover, 20th century, exuberant floral design on cream ground, four cuts for round furniture (approx. 71cm. x 82cm.) * A floral tapestry panel fragment, 18th century (50cm. x 47cm) some matched; * Matching set: large red carnations and foliage on cream ground, 18th century, one seat cover (62 x 65cm), four cuts for round furniture, and one smaller back panel curved across top (53 x 44.5cm.); * Another matching set - same size: 18th century, blue and green leaves and red and yellow flower heads on cream ground; (approx. 54cm. x 59cm and 54cm x 60cm); Together with eight oval arm covers, late 18th century, worked with large pastel coloured large flowers on a cream ground and two with exuberant large red flowers and surrounding foliage, 18th century; together with a further set of twenty-two oval arm covers worked with finely worked motif with flowers, torch and bow, on a cream ground, 18th century and later; various sizes:
