A George III carved pine and limewood chimney-piece circa 1770

with an inverted leaf-carved breakfront top above a central tablet ornamented with foliage and an anthemion, flanked by paterae and fluting, on jambs with applied leaf and ribbon carving surmounted by ewers, with a white and red marble slip

Generally this chimney piece is in good condition. Originally painted, it has now been stripped. There are some filled holes to the frieze and in the area of the ewers at the top of the jambs. There are age cracks throughout most noticeably to the central tablet. There is a small patch to the left hand jamb, inner edge. There is some minor warping and shrinkage throughout, particularly to the corner joints beneath the frieze. There are minor chips, old marks and scratches throughout consistent with age and use.
