A George III mahogany armchair circa 1770, in the manner of John Linnell

now upholstered in green damask, on plain rear splayed supports

Good overall condition. Splices to both rear legs. Minor old extinct worm holes to beechwood seatrail with later angle blocks. Minor old marks and scratches consistent with age. Good colour and patina. Lovely carved detail to the arms and front legs

The ball type carving on the arms is of a type typically associated with the designs and work of Linnell and which can be seen in  a pen, ink and watercolour  design by John Linnell, circa 1775, now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (E.82-1929).
