Catalogue Note

The border of this suzani, or dowry embroidery, is very similar to those on one in the M.H. de Young Museum, San Francisco, see Hali, issue 30, pl. 4, p.48 and another in the Vok collection, see Ignazio Vok, Suzani, Munich 1994, pl. 30.  This embroidery's field design is not the in-and-out design of the de Young piece and others, such as lot 26, Sotheby's London 26 April 1995, but has asymmetric ascending floral vinery that is a denser version of that found on the cited Vok embroidery.
