Description

  • A Ziegler Mahal carpet
  • approximately 16ft. 5in. by 12ft. (5.00 by 3.65m.)

Condition

Pile ranges from approximately 1/6 of an inch to low to knotheads. Pile is highest in borders. Oxidized browns with pile generally low to knotheads. Some old moth damage along sides in outer guard stripe, most repiled. Some very minor scattered repiling in field, not extensive. Light surface dirt. Upper end with original flatwoven finish nd remnants of macramé fringes. Lower end with very slight losses, not serious, now secured with blanket stitch over cloth tape sewn on reverse. Sides partially overcast, partially original with some losses. Recommend securing at some areas. Supple handle, good overall condition, will enhance with cleaning and minor restoration. Very attractive color palette and oversize design.

Catalogue Note

The large scale design executed in soft, luminous colors on an ivory ground, here also enclosed within an ivory border, create a carpet that encapsulates the best of Ziegler Mahal production.
