By descent to his daughter Ethel Tempest, who married Miles Stapleton (1850-1895), 10th Lord Beaumont in 1893;

Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The canvas is lined and the paint layer is stable but slightly raised in the sky and along old stretcher marks. There are some restorations to the sky, minor loss to the buildings and some of the shadows of the boats and the buildings have been compromised. Overall, in good original condition and beneath the discoloured varnish the texture of the paint and many of the details are well preserved.
Offered in a gilt wood frame in good condition."

The painting repeats the composition of Canaletto's original in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle (see W.G. Constable & J.G. Links, Canaletto, Oxford 1989, vol. I, reproduced plate 64, vol. II, p. 357-8, no. 335).
