Une splendide sélection provenant de la légendaire Botanical magazine of Curtis, "consisting of a hundred of those most worthy of cultivation" (Titre).
L'édition est l'oeuvre de Sir William Jackson Hooker, directeur des jardins botaniques royaux de Kew (Surrey), et l'éditeur du Botanical magazine, et de son artiste principal Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892), pour le Botanical magazine et le seul artiste habilité à peindre les fleurs de Kew pour leurs publications.
L'exemplaire porte l'ex-libris du clan écossais des Munro, avec leur motto "Dread God", que seul le chef de clan est autorisé à porter : à la date de 1849, il s'agit d'Alexandre Munro, célèbre anatomiste à l'université d'Edinburgh.
