Rare iconographie des orchidées de sa région compilée par J.-B. Barla, directeur du Musée d'Histoire naturelle de Nice.
La première planche porte dans la marge inférieure un timbre sec avec l'indication Colorié par Mme Lemaitre.
L'exemplaire appartint à George Hecke, homme d'affaires et de politique dans l'industrie agro-alimentaire américaine naissante, et le premier directeur du département de l'Agriculture de l'état de Californie, de 1919 à 1931.
