The level of expertise achieved by potters and painters working in Jingdezhen under the Qianlong emperor is particularly evident in the skilful control of the rich cobalt, which has been applied with dark hand-painted dots that borrows from the characteristic 'heaping and piling' effect of early Ming Yongle and Xuande blue-and-white ware.
