Description
le pourtour finement gravé de rinceaux de feuilles de vigne et raisins, au milieu desquels s'ébattent oiseaux et lièvres
Condition
Some wear and oxidization in areas to the gilding (consistent with age), a thin hairline/fold in the metal extending on approx 2 cm from the rim inside the cup, otherwise in good condition.
Please note that the provenance of the cup is Sotheby's London, 10 June 1986, lot 32.

A slightly larger stemcup of this form and similarly decorated with birds amongst scrolling foliage, from the Joseph Homberg Collection, was sold in our London rooms, 19th July 1949, lot 85, and again, 11th May 1965, lot 83; and another, but with birds and hares on a minutely stippled ground, was sold at Christie's London, 20th November 1972, lot 137. Compare also examples engraved with floral scrolls, such as two sold on our London rooms, 10th June 1986, lot 34; and the other, 2-3rd December 1974, lot 33.
