Description

la base carrée surmontée de deux dragons dos à dos, les animaux légendaires gueule ouverte les naseaux relevés, leurs cornes et la crinière rabattues vers leur épine dorsale écailleuse, la surface d'impression sculptée des caractères Nanfang Huode Xingjun Baoyin, le sceau sacré du Dieu du Feu, sur la base d'une boite en bois (couvercle manquant)

Condition

A vertical age crack in the wood in front of the seal 6cm extending on the base (visible on the photo) ; another age crossing horizontally ; two others to the reverse of the base. The seal is otherwise in good condition with the wood bearing a good patina. The actual colour is a fraction more red than on the catalogue illustration. The seal kept its original string and has the stand of its original box (distressed) but the cover of the box is missing.

Another carved wood Imperial Guanxu seal of the same design with a different inscirption is illustrated in Qing Legacies, The Sumptuous Art of Imperial Packaging, The Macau Museum of Art, Exhib.cat. Macau 2000, no.17 p.85.

L'inscription Nanfang Huode Xingjun Baoyin, "le sceau sacré du Dieu du Feu" est une référence à la philosophie Daoïste.
