One with a small chip 5mm to the rim, some rubbing and scratches in areas to the rubis ground and enamels (showing on the illustration in the catalogue), otherwise in very good condition. The feet are pierced with two holes for hanging.

The present pair of dishes are rare for their large size; for a slightly smaller example with closely related decoration, see W.G. Gulland, Chinese Porcelain, London, 1911; another sold in our Monaco rooms, 18/19^th June 1988, lot 1676; and a third dish sold at Christie's Monaco, 7^th December 1987, lot 6o. A set of smaller dishes similarly enamelled with this design were sold in our Monaco rooms, 23^rd June 1986; and a pair was sold in these rooms, 3^rd November 1987, lot 782.
